Прилагательное здоровый передается английскими healthy, healthful и wholesome, которые могут взаимозаменяться в значении 'способствующий сохранению или улучшению здоровья': здоровый климат – healthy (healthful, wholesome) climate, здоровый сон – healthy (healthful, wholesome) sleep (здоровая пища – только wholesome food). Healthy имеет также значение 'полный физических сил': здоровый ребенок – healthy child. Следует помнить, что healthy в этом значении употребляется предикативно только в тех случаях, когда речь идет об обычном физическом состоянии, а не о каком-то моменте: he is healthy означает, что он вообще здоровый человек. Однако предложение на прошлой неделе он был болен, а сейчас совсем здоров следует перевести he was ill last week and now he is quite well. Healthy в данном случае употреблено быть не может. Healthy и wholesome могут иметь значение 'свидетельствующий о здоровье': здоровый аппетит – healthy (wholesome) appetite.
